X-Men First Class
Jul. 18th, 2011 12:11 pmYou, you guys. How could you do this to me? How could you suggest I go see X-Men: First Class?
I mean, don't I have enough tragically tragic OTPs? Jecht and Auron? Bryce and Chuck? Clark and Lex? Did you really have to make me add Charles and Erik to the list? BECAUSE YOU DID. I AM IN LOVE WITH CHARLES/ERIK AND IT'S ALL YOU GUYS' FAULT. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?
But damn, when I asked for a slashy film to go see, y'all delivered. This movie is such a fucking love story through and through. A tragic, doomed love story, but a love story. You know, kinda like Star Trek II and III, but without Genesis to make it all better.
In all seriousness, I really enjoyed the film overall. The race fail was disappointing and January Jones can't act her way out of a paper bag, but the Charles/Erik relationship at the center is a thing of beautiful and longing and sadness. They really are the guys that prove that sometimes love just ain't enough, even when they both want it to be. It's been a while since I was so obviously in love with a relationship in a film. I usually find them too short (compared to TV series, I mean) to make me care enough. That was not a problem here.
In fact, during the big climax near the end ( where spoilerly stuff happens ), my sister looked at me and realized I had my hand over my mouth and I was riveted by the action on-screen, she leaned over and asked me, "Are you freaking out¹ or are you fangirling?"
My answer? I AM DOING BOTH, ASH. BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. BECAUSE IT IS JUST THAT AWESOME.
I conclude with this plea: feed me fandom! Fics, recs, vids, art, icons, places I can fangirl, I needs it!Especially fixit fic. SOMEONE PLEASE FIX IT.

¹ By "freaking out," my sister means "are you being an overemotional weirdo who is crying at a superhero movie?" or "are you being a squeamish weirdo who can't take blood/gore/violence?" I'm often both. XD
